Tips for Fundraising
Step 1: Make a Personal Video
You’re going to want to record a video of you to send out to your friends, this is vital. To get you going on this we wrote a script you can use.
“Hey Friends! I am really excited about this. I am going to Costa Rica to revitalize a school in an underserved area. This is something I have always wanted to do which is why I am asking my close friends to get involved with me. It’s really really simple. Each of us just gives a coffee a day, and the students at this school will gain the dignity that comes with having a better learning environment. I would really love if you could join me.”
Step 2: Donate
No one likes to be the first to the party.
It’s best to give the full amount of $3.33 every day for 3 months.
…Or just get your mom to do it for you.
Step 3: Personal Emails
No mass emails.
People don’t open them, people don’t read them, people don’t like them. Here is what you can copy and paste to each of your friends. Make sure to add name and personalize as much as possible.
“Hey [NAME], I am sending this to you and a small handful of our friends, I am heading down to Costa Rica to help
revitalize a school and help foster education in an underserved community. I really need your help funding it. It literally costs the same as a coffee a day, and the video that I made you is two minutes long (make sure to have a look). Call me anytime to talk about it, I can’t wait to do this with you. [PHONE NUMBER.]”
Step 4: Post on Social Media
Pick a photo and post the following Scripts:
“I need you to give the cost of a coffee every day for three months. I am going to revitalize a school in Costa Rica with Sole Girls and I want you to join."
“I am going to help restore a school and provide learning materials to an underserved community with Sole Girls [link]”
“I am going to restore a school in Costa Rica with Sole Girls for an underserved community. I only need ten friends to give a coffee a day to provide new and improved learning materials, paint walls, and help with basic renovations. All details here (link to video). Come with me if you can!” (Facebook)
Step 4: Keep Posting
Keep it up on Social Media!
“Right now there are students in Costa Rica who cannot receive a quality education because of a lack of resources. I am going with Sole Girls to change that. Join me. [link].” (Instagram)
“I cannot wait to travel with Sole Girls to help restore a school in Costa Rica. It only takes 10 friends to give $3.33 every day for three months. [link].” (Facebook).
“Can’t wait to work alongside @glasswingi and Sole Girls restoring a school in Costa Rica. I would love if you could be a part of it! [link].” (Instagram)
Step 5: Send Text Messages
Text message everyone you emailed your campaign to. Remind them about your emails, Facebook posts, ect.
“Hey John! Did you get a chance to see my email? Watch the video – it’s literally two minutes long and I would love for you to join me on this!”
Step 6: Responding
Regularly post every time someone gives, and post about how excited you are.
“Thanks for giving Jimmy! I am so excited to build this house with you!”
Step 7: Text till you Drop
Following up through text is the #1 best way to get a clear yes or a clear no from your friends. Some will say yes, some will say no. That’s just life.
There are students in Costa Rica right now who are unable to get a quality education because of a lack of resources … they would love for you to be courageous and send out those texts will you get a yay or nay. You will be surprised by how many people say YES.
